Legacy Books and Cafe
5249 Delmar St. Louis MO, 63108
Join us for a "Read-In" of banned or censored literature by special guest readers including elected school board member Peter Downs, Sylvester Brown, Jamala Rogers, Lucille van Alstine, president of MO-NCTE, David Jackson of Legacy, Susan Fogle, Jason Murphy, professor at SLU and more....
Come and celebrate our rights as readers and connect with other social justice educators! In honor of the Literacy Roundtable’s 10th Anniversary, we are holding a series of events that focus on Education as a Human Right. Our "Read-In" will draw attention to issues around censorship and intellectual freedom. Each year hundreds of books are formally challenged or banned from schools and libraries, and thousands more book challenges go unreported. We believe that censorship is a violation of our intellectual freedom and, in our roles as literacy educators and advocates, affirm the importance of free speech and education as a human right. O ur fight against censorship continues. Special invited guests will read from literature that has been censored or banned.
DJ, food and drinks available!
The first 25 people through the door will receive a free drink coupon.
