The Time Has Come for Congress to End This War.
Join Us In a Nationwide Direct Action Campaign:

We have reached a critical juncture. The administration is escalating the war in Iraq while making ominous threats against Iran. Staying in Iraq is not an option. The safe and expeditious withdrawal of U.S. troops needs to begin immediately.

Congress has just received a request for an additional $93 billion. Saying NO to that request is the most effective way we have to voice opposition to any escalation and to demand immediate withdrawal. Our message to our U.S. Representatives and Senators is simple: Until you make a public commitment to vote against any additional war funding, we will occupy your office. And we will return again and again!
The Occupation Project is a nationwide effort initiated by Voices for Creative Nonviolence in Chicago. The Occupation Project in St. Louis is a joint effort of Instead of War, Veterans for Peace, Center for Theology and Social Analysis, and Military Families Speak Out Missouri/Midwest.

Here is a short background document that might help you think about why ending additional war funding is so critical. And here's an article by Jeff Leys of Voices for Creative Nonviolence discussing the time frame for the project.
For a sane and thoughtful discussion of an alternative to the Bush escalation, see The Way Out of War, an article published in Harper's Magazine last fall by George McGovern and William Polk. For the complete story, read McGovern and Polk's book Out of Iraq, available at most bookstores. And here are some "impertinent questions" posed to the Bush administration and its war planners by George McGovern.
